THE STORY OF KING TALUT, JALUT AND PROPHET DAWOOD..

The story is also known as David vs Goliath (Talut vs Jalut [Goliath] in which Daud [David] killed Jalut)

I have been delaying to post this one for a while. One thing is that I am extremely busy with other stuff and I really have to spend quite some time to write this post so that I could check the accuracy of the post. I was inspired by the 'kuliah agama'  that I listened to 4 days ago that was delivered by the presiden of PMIUM (ust safwan-3rd year student in religious studies in A.P.I) . His 'kuliah' revolved around the event that occurred in Gaza (the disaster is still on-going for the Gazan). Since this post is just for me to share what had happened thousand years ago, I will try to convey it based on my understanding. I am also referring to the online version of Tafsir Ibn Katheer. Please correct me if you think there are inaccuracies in this post. (Refer to the bottom of the post for my sources)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a time when the children of Israel were holding true to their religion and they were the conquerors. Anyone who fought them would lose since the children of Israel had the Torah and the Tabut (The Ark of the Covenant - some said that it contained a pot of manna and the remnants of the Tablets, while some others said that it contained (Moses') staff and two shoes*). Then the love of Dunia invaded their hearts and they started to deviate from the religion of Allah. When they (Israelites) committed the evil that they committed, Allah caused their enemies to overwhelm them, and many fatalities fell among them as a consequence. They lost the Tabut as well.
They then asked their Nabi to appoint them a king so that they may fight in the cause of Allah. They did not ask for a Prophet or Nabi, but a King, such a worldly status, and that showed they still have the love of Dunia in their hearts.
2:246 - ..... Nabi mereka menjawab: Tidakkah harus, jika kamu kelak diwajibkan berperang, kamu tidak akan berperang?, Mereka berkata: Mengapa pula kami tidak akan berperang pada jalan Allah, sedang kami telah diusir dari kampung halaman kami dan (dari) anak-anak kami? Maka apabila perang itu diwajibkan atas mereka, mereka membelakangkan kewajipan itu, kecuali sebahagian kecil dari mereka dan (ingatlah), Allah Maha Mengetahui akan orang-orang yang zalim.
In the Quran, Allah has shown us the nature of this people. When they made a covenant, they will break it. Today, how many agreements have they broken? How many treaties have they forgotten? How many UN resolutions have they ignored? This is the nature of the people that we are dealing with now. Their behavior should no longer be a surprise to us.
Allah granted them their wish and appointed Talut as their king. Even so, they dared to dispute His Almighty’s decision and the reason of their dispute was because of wealth and worldly status that Talut did not poses. Allah chose Talut because Talut fulfilled the 2 criteria that a good leader should have, which were the abundance of knowledge and a strong physical body. To show that the decision was made by Allah, the Tabut was returned to the Children of Israel and it was brought by Angels.
Then Talut and his army went on to the fight Jalut and his army. Talut warned his soldiers that they will be tested by Allah and the test was that they will encounter a river and whoever drinks from the river except a sip of it isn’t from his army. Still they drank from the river except for a few. Talut’s army was reduced into a mere 300 something based on a hadith. [see my source at the bottom]
2:249 - …. Setelah Talut bersama-sama orang-orang yang beriman menyeberangi sungai itu, berkatalah orang-orang yang meminum (sepuas-puasnya): Kami pada hari ini tidak terdaya menentang Jalut dan tenteranya….
2:249 - … Berkata pula orang-orang yang yakin bahawa mereka akan menemui Allah: Berapa banyak (yang pernah terjadi), golongan yang sedikit berjaya menewaskan golongan yang banyak dengan izin Allah dan Allah (sentiasa) bersama-sama orang-orang yang sabar.
This Ayah indicates that the Israelites (who remained with Talut) thought that they were few in the face of their enemy who were many then. So, their knowledgeable scholars strengthened their resolve by stating that Allah's promise is true and that triumph comes from Allah Alone, not from the large numbers or the adequacy of the supplies.
This is what we see in Gaza today. When the Gazans are fighting the oppressor, we heard some people say “No, do not fight them. They have among the best military equipments, tanks and jets. You will surely lose. Just surrender and sign a treaty” This is the saying of the people who have been defeated psychologically. But no, this is not what the fighters in Gaza did, they did not surrender to the oppressor. It doesn’t matter how advance the equipments that the enemy has; surrendering to the kaafiruun is not an option. When they rely on Allah, and Allah alone, nothing else will matter and bombs, missiles, tanks and jets could not even scratch their spirit.
Narrated Ibn Abbas:
'Allah is Sufficient for us and He Is the Best Disposer of affairs," was said by Abraham when he was thrown into the fire; and it was said by Muhammad when they (i.e. hypocrites) said, "A great army is gathering against you, therefore, fear them," but it only increased their faith and they said: "Allah is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer (of affairs, for us)." (3.173) Al Bukhari Volume 6, 86
After 22 days of “operation” what did the Zionist regime accomplish? They surrounded Gaza with all their might but did they manage to defeat Hamas? Did they accomplish their goals (if they had any)? No. They didn’t accomplish anything other than killing civilians. The muslim fighters are still strong there.
Time and time again history has shown us that numbers do not mean a thing in wars. In the Battle of Badr, the enemy outnumbered the muslims 3:1 (313 vs 1000) and the muslims still won the battle. In the Battle or Yarmuk, the enemy outnumbered the muslims 4:1 (25k vs more than 80k) and yet the muslims won the battle. But there was one battle where muslims outnumbered the enemy and the muslims lost. It didn’t take 22 days for the enemy to defeat the huge muslim armies, only a mere 6 days (and the battle is being called appropriately so).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6_day_war which brings us to this hadith
Abu Umamah al Bahili (radiallahu anhu) reports that the Prophet of Allah (PBUH) said: "A group of my Ummah (people) will remain firm upon the truth, dominating their enemies. They will not be harmed by their opponents until Allah's decree arrives upon them. They asked, `Oh Prophet of Allah! Where will they be?' He replied, 'in Bait al Maqdis and its surrounding areas."
We should know that His help only comes when we remain true to our religion and we totally rely on Him and Him alone..
p/s : there's an interesting fact about the war between talut and jalut that have captivated my attention on it. When we're asked "which one of the chrcters in the  chess game do yo think would be the most extremely important?. For sure we would directly say , THE KING...according to some reliable sources, Talut got their victory over Jalut , although Jalut soldier were outnumbering the Talut's ..because that victory had been made possible through the same strategy used in chess game.
